Strengthening National Security: Assessing the Role of Academic Institutions in Meeting Armed Forces Requirements
Synopsis: Bridging the gap between academia and the defence sector is not just a strategic necessity, but a national imperative. Considering the importance and relevance of the subject, Comprehensive National Security Studies at PIC has undertaken a policy paper which aims to identify and bridge the knowledge gap between academic institutions and defence industry. The major aim of the paper is to identify and address the knowledge and capability gaps between STEM academic institutions and the requirements of the Indian defence sector, particularly the armed forces.
Providing actionable recommendations to effectively bridge the existing knowledge gap effectively.
Expected Outcomes: Improved collaboration between armed forces, industry and academia, fostering a culture of defence innovation in the country.

Assessment of the performance of India's Air Defence Capabilities during Operation Sindoor
Synopsis: This paper aims to assess the performance of India’s air defence system during Operation Sindoor by exploring its structure, operational efficiency and real-time inter-service coordination. It analyses India’s four layered air defence architecture which includes Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADS), Short and Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (SRSAMs and MRSAMs), and Long Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (LRSAMs) and also advanced radars and electronic warfare platforms and command and control systems like the Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS) and the Akashteer Control and Reporting (C&R) system.
Additionally, the paper explores how the coordination between the armed forces, autonomous decision making backed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the deployment of indigenous and foreign origin defence equipment, especially the equipment which acts as an integral part of India’s air defence system contributed towards effective and timely neutralisation of threats from Pakistan. By doing so, it provides an overall understanding of the strategic, operational and technological dynamics of India’s air defence network during an active conflict scenario.
Expected Outcomes: The insights from the paper aim to contribute to wider discussion on air defence preparedness, synergy in military operations and the strategic importance of a unified air defence system in modern warfare.
